Kyoto: Who Really Understands?

...Not Canadians, apparently.

I do wonder though, if a similar poll was done regarding the people who talk more about Kyoto than anyone else - the media. Have any of them read the accord, or are they just parroting what gets thrown around?

And is the Liberal party support borne out of an honest belief that it will actually work, or simply an attempt to save face? Afterall, didn't Martin basically say that Canada would sign the accord with the full knowledge that we could never implement it?

Hrmm.

I still don't know the whole story and maybe Gomery can follow the paper trail to find out how the Liberal Books for the Governemnt listed $5,ooo,ooo,ooo
as the cost and yet now we see it's $12,ooo,ooo,ooo and we still missed the marks by 70 percentage points.
Yes 70 points, not only did they Liberals let the numbers go up by 35 points, we need to go down by 35 points to break even.
This is a 70 point move because it will take twice the money to meet the mean numbers set out that the Liberals had no intention of attaining.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't. Boy, our descendants are really going to be spitting on our graves for all of this.

Canadians don't get it, many seem to think giving our money away will solve our problems, but that's unlikely.

Hypothetical: let's say global warming is the threat the drafters of Kyoto think it is. What do we do? Throw up our hands and say it's too expensive to fix? Forget the long term survival of the human race, we've got an economy to develop?

Like I said, damned if we do, damned if we do. Sooner or later, even if it is hundreds of generations down the line, our misuse of the environment is going come back to bite us in the ass. But it seems like stemming this problem will cripple our economy. And lord knows we all can't live without our consumer goods, me most of all.
